About Louis Davies
Louis studied art in high school and with a professional artist in London, England. He learnt the importance of observation, design and the drawing skill essential to create eye-catching pictures. His works won numerous awards, however, he did not attend art college; he served in the Royal Marines after which he began a career in advertising management.
He and his family moved to Belgium and Holland then to Canada in 1976. Painting remained a hobby while studies at U of T and the ROM helped develop his own realistic style. He paints in watercolour and acrylic.
Since 1997 Louis has painted full time. "I enjoy the outdoors so painting scenes was my first choice for subject matter. Shortly after, I started with still life images, wildlife and architectural renderings in response to requests for home and cottage paintings."
Realism describes Louis' art style, however, when painting he edits the subject, uses the logic of composition, light and colour harmony which gives the subject eye-catching depth.
His original works and limited editions have been showcased in galleries and juried shows in Toronto, Collingwood and throughout cottage country. Louis' paintings, many of which were commissioned, hang in private collections in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
